The Mustang Story.
My mustang is a 1987 GT Convertible. The car was originaly white, grey interior and had a white top. It is an automatic, and has every option except for the rear window defrost and leather. I purchased this car at 110,000 kilometers and put on about 1000 kilometers since then. When I bought the car, it was not in working order, it hadnt been run in a long time and was burried in the previous owners garage. The previous owner ran the car into a ditch on his prom night back in 1999. After the small accident the car just sat in his garage. The car needed a lot of work when I bought it. I had to change the whole front body panels, which included the quarter panels and hood. He had painted the car a ford probe blue, but the paintjob was badly done because the paint was flaking and chipping off. The interior was a mess, many small and hard to find parts were missing. He intended to dismantle the car and put it all back together but in the process he gave up and lost many parts. So I had to put this car back together like a puzzle. The mechanical parts of this car are in perfect shape, the car runs like a new car. I have made a few modifications to improve the performance of this car. I changed the hood, and panels. I slowly but surely found many of the missing interior parts by scouring junk yards accross Quebec. With the help of Michel Lacoste from Mobile Frame STG, also my girlfriends father, I was able to paint the car. He helped me a lot with this car, the paint was one of the biggest tasks that I had to do. After the paint was completed I changed the windshield because it cracked during the accident. I also had to find all four windows and change them because he kicked them out, because he was mad at the car after the accident. The next big project was the convertible top, that is where I am now. I have changed the convertible top frame due to the fact that it wouldny clamp, it became crooked during the accident. I was lucky enough to find a whole convertible frame from a mustang owner who was attempting to complete a project similar to mine but gave up because he had no time and patience. I removed the alarm system because I never worked for me and I was never given the controller when I purchased the car! With the help of Ebay I was able to find many parts
that I would have probably never have been able to find here in Quebec.
This Mustang is moreless stock. For the exhaust I have added long-tube headders, off-road h-pipe, and free flowing mufflers. I had to change the transmission at 112,000km the new transmission now runs smooth. I have purchased a 4.30 differential gearset to replace the stock 2.73. I purchased white 16" pony mags that really look great with the blue color and white top. As far as the interior goes, the dash and console is black and I added a Panasonic MP3 CD-Player Deck. I also rewired the whole cars stereo and installed 4 pioneer 5.25" speakers and 3.5" JVC speakers in the dash. I made a customer dash panel for the CD Player, in which I have also added gauges. I have purchased a Saleen spoiler because it is beautiful. I purchased a new chrome steering wheel because I really hated the original Ford one. I have also installed a Cobra grill insert, now my car is a mustang as it finally has the running horse at the front of the car.
This car has also been plagued with bad luck. Summer 2002 my mother smashed my Cavalier into my Mustang. She managed to smash my cavalier pretty badly but luckily the mustang did not have a scratch. Summer 2003 was the worst. After I finished painting the car, someone keyed all four sides of the car. The next week someone keyed it again. So at that point I realized that I had to paint it again and I was going to wait for 2004. It was a good thing I did because my girlfriend leaned on the shifter thanksgiving night and smashed the car into garage door, scratching the whole front of the car and cracking the winshield. Even with all this bad luck I still have faith that this car will be complete one day. Click here to see the damage 2004: This year I sanded the car down myself, then had it professionally
painted. I also puchased the rear glass window and had the convertible
top replaced. Both shops did an excellent job. I also had to change
the motor mounts this year while it was at the garage getting the transmission
lines redone. I am having a lot of fun with it. I have also put clear headlights in. My lights were finished and I needed to change all 6. So I opted for the clear lights and I love them. The cars top does not leak in the rain. I am going to have to purchase new tires. I also changed the steering colum, as the other one had too much play in the tilt mechanism. I need the seals that seal the door to the outside window. I also need to find a wheel center cap as someone stole it while I was at the movies. I need to change the battery cables, because they are getting old. I need to replace the light in the rear view mirror. The windshield is still cracked by I can live with it, The police have stopped me many times and have not noticed it.
